Who We Cover

Your sector. Your policy.

From a single retail unit to a multi-site restaurant group, we structure cover around your actual operation — not a generic template.

🏪

Retail Shops

Clothing, electronics, food, hardware and specialist retail. Cover for stock, buildings, public liability and business interruption. We handle lease requirements for landlord-mandated covers.

🍽️

Restaurants & Cafés

From independent bistros to multi-site chains. Food liability, stock spoilage, business interruption and employer's liability. We understand the risks specific to food service operations.

🍺

Pubs & Bars

Licensed premises cover including buildings, contents, glass, business interruption and public liability. We work with specialist hospitality markets for competitive terms on licensed trade risks.

🏨

Hotels & Guest Houses

Buildings, contents, guest property liability, business interruption and employer's liability for accommodation businesses. Including bed and breakfast and serviced apartment cover.

✂️

Hair & Beauty

Treatment liability, professional indemnity and public liability for salons, spas and beauty clinics. Including cover for high-risk treatments and mobile/home-visit practitioners.

🎭

Leisure & Entertainment

Gyms, sports clubs, event venues and entertainment businesses. Tailored cover for participant liability, event cancellation and seasonal business interruption.

Cover Types

The covers your business actually needs

Retail and hospitality policies can be bundled as a commercial combined or structured individually. We review your exposures and ensure nothing is left out.

Buildings & Contents

Protection for your premises, fixtures, fittings and equipment. We ensure sums insured are adequate — underinsurance is one of the most common problems we find when reviewing existing policies.

Stock Insurance

Cover for stock held on your premises, in transit and in cold storage. Includes seasonal stock uplift provisions for peak trading periods — often overlooked on standard policies.

Business Interruption

If your business is forced to close — fire, flood, equipment failure — BI cover replaces lost revenue and covers ongoing fixed costs. Getting the indemnity period and basis right is critical.

Public Liability

Cover for injury or property damage to customers, visitors and members of the public arising from your business activities. Essential for any premises open to the public.

Employers Liability

A legal requirement if you have staff. Covers claims from employees injured at work. We combine EL with PL to keep costs down and administration simple.

Product Liability

Covers claims arising from products you sell, manufacture or supply — including food products. Critical for food and beverage businesses and anyone selling physical goods.

Money & Theft

Cash on premises, in transit and in the safe. Contents theft by forced entry. We review your cash-handling procedures and structure limits accordingly.

Cyber Insurance

Online retailers and businesses taking card payments face cyber exposure. Cover for data breaches, PCI-DSS non-compliance costs and business interruption from cyber events.

Legal Expenses

Employment disputes, licensing appeals, tax investigations and supplier contract disputes. Legal expenses cover protects against costs that fall outside your main policy.

What to Watch Out For

Common gaps in retail & hospitality cover

Underinsured stock

Stock values fluctuate. Many businesses set their stock sum insured at the start of the year and forget to adjust for peak periods. A claim during the Christmas run-up on an underinsured policy can be devastating.

Inadequate BI indemnity period

Business interruption cover is only as good as the indemnity period. Most retail and hospitality premises take 18–36 months to fully recover after a major loss — but many policies default to 12 months.

Food spoilage exclusions

Standard policies often exclude food spoilage from refrigeration breakdown or power failure. For food businesses, this can represent a significant uninsured loss. We check for this and add cover where needed.

Lease requirements

Commercial leases often impose specific insurance requirements — minimum PL limits, buildings cover even as a tenant, loss of rent. We review lease obligations and ensure your policy satisfies them.

Why Forum

Why retail & hospitality businesses choose us

🏪

Sector knowledge

We know the risks specific to retail and hospitality — and the insurers with genuine appetite for these sectors.

📋

Policy review

We identify gaps in existing cover before renewal, not after a claim. Underinsurance, exclusions and inadequate limits are found and fixed.

💷

Competitive terms

We access specialist hospitality and retail markets to secure genuine value — not just the cheapest option that leaves you exposed.

📞

Claims support

When you have a claim, you speak to a broker who knows your policy. We manage the process and advocate on your behalf with the insurer.

Claims Example
£220k

Restaurant — kitchen fire and business interruption

A fire originating in the kitchen of a London restaurant caused extensive damage to the kitchen, dining area and extraction systems. The business was closed for 7 months during the rebuild. The policy covered building reinstatement (£140k), equipment replacement (£42k) and business interruption losses over the closure period (£38k). The insurer attempted to apply an underinsurance condition — we challenged this successfully and the claim was paid in full.

FAQs

Common questions about retail & hospitality insurance

Yes. Even as a tenant, you still need public liability, employers liability, contents and stock insurance — and your lease may require you to contribute to buildings cover. We review your lease obligations and structure the right cover as tenant-in-situ.
BI is typically calculated on annual gross profit or revenue. For seasonal businesses, it's important to use a turnover figure that reflects the worst-case scenario — a major loss during peak season. We structure BI cover using seasonal uplift provisions and ensure the indemnity period is long enough for a realistic recovery.
Product liability for food businesses covers claims arising from food or drink you supply causing illness, injury or death. It also typically covers the cost of product recall and replacement if contaminated stock needs to be withdrawn. Separate cover may be needed for food safety regulatory defence costs.
Standard policies do not automatically include loss of licence cover for licensed premises. This can be added as an extension — it covers revenue loss if your licence is revoked or not renewed for reasons outside your control. We recommend this for all licensed trade businesses.
Yes. Many policies now accommodate multi-channel retail. We can structure cover that includes online sales, click-and-collect and delivery operations alongside your physical premises — including cyber cover for your online platform and goods-in-transit for deliveries.
